Eric George Brown

Eric Gerald George Brown, 50 of Easton, MD, departed this life on Monday, October 1, 2012 at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore, MD after a lengthy illness. Affectionately known as “E or Big E” he was born on August 20, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland. The son of Walter M. Brown, and the late Geneva Elizabeth Stafford, he was the husband of his devoted wife, Athena.

Eric grew up in Trappe, MD and was educated in Talbot County Public Schools, graduating from Easton High School, “Class of 1981”. He also attended Chesapeake College. Eric was a Correctional Officer at Dorchester County Detention Center until his retirement in 2007. He attended Scotts United Methodist Church from childhood to an adult, and when he gave his life to Christ he became a member of Greater New Hope Church & Ministries. Eric liked wrestling, weight training/body building, boxing and baseball. Eric was very active at the local YMCA of Talbot County. The YMCA was like a 2nd home because he spent so much time there. He was a wellness assistant, volunteer coach, and after school “Hang Time” Coordinator. He was very health conscious and the doctors always felt that this was one of the reasons why he had such great endurance. Eric also provided security for local talents and wanted to be a body guard for the stars. He was ambitious enough to interview with and meet the late Rick James and his family.

Eric was joined in holy matrimony to Athena Renee Henry, on September 20, 1997. They shared 15 years of marriage.

Eric was a true Champion. His was determined and had a positive outlook no matter the obstacle. His illness caused tremendous pain, suffering and sacrifice, but he remained steadfast and unwavering in his courage, and hope. He didn’t give up, but continued to fight right until the very end. He had little complaint, great faith and he believed in his healing. Eric leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife Athena of Easton, MD; father Walter (Billy) Brown, Trappe, MD; son Jehiyah George Brown, Easton, MD; stepsons DeWan C.
